(December 2021)
In line with FSA policy and established good practice for accessing external expertise, Scientific Advisory Committee members are required to declare any personal or non-personal interests which represent a real or potential conflict in respect of general or specific aspects of work undertaken. Interests will be managed in accordance with the FSA’s policy and guidance.
If members have interests not specified in these notes, but which they believe could be regarded as influencing their advice or other work for FSA, they should declare them. However, members are not under any obligation to search out interests of which they might reasonably not be aware. For example, either through being unaware of all the interests of family members, or of not being aware of links between one company and another.

Current Interests
Personal:
- Direct employment: University of Bath
- Consultancies and other fee-paid work: Yes, potentially related to the Medicines Act 2003. Details: research consultancy work for UBC Biopharma via the University of Bath 01/02/2024- 30/05/2026.
Summary of the project:
This research project, conducted in collaboration with the Royal United Hospital (RUH), evaluates the implementation of a patient-initiated follow-up (PIFU) care model for rheumatology patients. PIFU is recommended by the NHS 2022/23 Operational Guidelines. UCB provides the digital platform enabling RUH patients to book follow-up appointments. I lead the design and evaluation framework and assess outcomes for a specific patient subset. The primary objectives are to establish a robust evaluation, analyse data, and assess both the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of PIFU, with the goal of publishing results in an international peer-reviewed journal. We hold regular meetings with the UCB research team, RUH clinicians, and hospital data officers. Notably, UCB has no access to the data nor any analysis rights, ensuring that all data analysis is conducted by RUH and the University of Bath. Although this is a research-focused project, it is funded by UCB—a consultancy funding arrangement via the University of Bath agreed over a year ago but only recently formalized.
